Happy New Year’s Eve! Our New Year’s plans are still a bit up-in-the-air at the moment – we’ve received a couple of invitations to a couple of different places, none of which contain firm plans as to times or dress codes! That hasn’t kept me from musing about the perfect New Year’s Eve outfit, however! After all, these will be the first pictures from 2012… looking and feeling radiant surely can’t hurt. And while I love that New Year’s basically turns any city into Las Vegas for a single night of revelry and fun, I’ve been feeling drawn to more… sophisticated styles (in other words, less doused in sequins) these days. Perhaps it’s the Duchess of Cambridge’s influence? Anyway…
Were we heading out to a dinner-and-dance (say, this event at Nectar Tasting Room), I think a bright frock and some fun accessories would be in order. This dress is great for New Year’s, but would also be an awesome Valentine’s Day date dress – and could definitely make an appearance at any weddings throughout the year. Plus, I’m always looking for an excuse to buy these fun Kendra Scott earrings in another color (or 3)!
If instead we were heading to a theme party – or perhaps a themed restaurant, like the recently opened Vault – that involved big bands and old-school dancing, I’d want nothing more than to wear this dress with 20s-reminiscent beading. Maybe I’ve been watching too much Boardwalk Empire, but I can definitely imagine wandering around the Atlantic City boardwalk like this, with a bow in my hair and a bit of sparkle on my wrists.
Realistically, we’ll probably spend this New Year’s Eve having a pretty low-key dinner, followed by watching the ball drop in someone’s living room – an agenda that doesn’t necessitate a new dress or high heels. Instead, a pair of jeggings, a bright tunic, and some flats would be a perfect uniform for the at-home celebrations (jazzed up with some rhinestone earrings, of course!).
Whatever we end up doing tonight, nothing will compare to the epic party we hosted last year! Delicious food, fabulous friends that traveled from near and far to ring in the new year together – we made awesome memories (and only annoyed our neighbors a little bit). The nostalgia’s hitting me pretty hard at the moment.
Anyway, happy end-of-2011, beginning-of-2012 to you and yours, and may you all get to kiss someone you love at midnight tonight!
See you in 2012!
