It’s hard to believe that it’s been a full year since I tied the knot. Our wedding took place in Portland, Oregon, which was interesting because we weren’t living in the state at the time and Portland is not my home town. I relied heavily on my (now) Mother-in-Law to help plan and execute everything, and in hindsight that was a great thing that’s made us much closer. The eight hours of our wedding celebration were some of the best hours of my life: full of love, friends, family, and of course cupcakes! My favorite aesthetic item of the day was definitely my veil – it seems like most girls can recall imagining every aspect of their wedding day; I just knew I wanted a long, killer veil – and I got it!
We had a great photographer that we found through family friends – Michael Bauer of Michael Bauer Photography. He not only provided us with beautiful pictures of our wedding, but came out to Spokane to do an engagement session with us as well. We were so comfortable with him and happy to have him with us for our big day!
Our navy-blue-and-pale-green bash started with a ceremony that took place at the beautiful St. Mary’s Cathedral. We opted for a Catholic Blessing service that lasted about 30 minutes. The Church itself was so gorgeous that we hardly needed anything to dress it up, and the bricks and columns outside provided some great photo ops.
After the ceremony we headed over to the Treasury Ballroom for drinks, dinner, and dancing. One of my favorite things by far (and a highlight for the guests, too, from what I heard) was our spread of cupcakes created by Saint Cupcake. They were delicious and had custom icing to keep with the color palate. Since we had a May Day wedding, we chose favors that guests could plant at home: wild flowers that I’ve heard were beautiful (we didn’t get a chance to plant any ourselves!).
But what ended up becoming my favorite photo of the night was captured on one of our guests’ personal cameras. We had been on the fence about doing a bouquet toss and a garter toss, and basically decided to do them towards the end of the reception, oh… 10 minutes or so before they happened. With Beyonce’s Single Ladies playing in the background, I gathered all of the “unattached” ladies and threw the bouquet as hard as I could, and this resulted:
You can see my small tossing bouquet up at the very top of the picture!
In all, Matt and I consider ourselves very lucky to have had such a wonderful wedding day – and are thankful for all of the awesome vendors we had to make it all happen!
